PhD Call for Applications
For the second cohort of doctoral students (starting in autumn 2022), we are seeking up to 6 emerging researchers from the fields of film, dance, theatre, performance and transdisciplinary arts whose work involves performative and/or cinematic processes. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in an artistic or art-historical discipline and profound artistic practice spanning several years. Residence in Switzerland is not required, but participants must be willing to take part in activities in Zurich and at the partner university.

Since ZHdK is not entitled doctoral degrees in its own right, doctoral degrees/PhDs are awarded by a partner university. Our partner universities enable ZHdK doctoral candidates to earn a scientific-artistic or an artistic doctorate. Research activities, supervision and events take place partly in Zurich but mostly at the respective partner university.

PEERS Call for Applications
The PEERS programme is going into its second cohort and we are looking for five mid-career artists with profound artistic practice in theatre, dance, performance or film.
PEERS is a pre-PhD programme of the Department of Performing Arts and Film at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Its aim is to support emerging artistic researchers who are interested in pursuing a doctorate in the arts, foremost yet not exclusively in the performing arts and film.

Self-evident? The relationship between research and presentation in artistic research – Lecture and workshop by Sibylle Peters
Die westliche Tradition der Erkenntnisproduktion betrachtet Präsentation als ein der Forschung nachgeordnetes Ereignis: zunächst die Forschung, dann die Arbeit an der Präsentation, der Vermittlung von Ergebnissen. Die Science und Media Studies haben im Unterschied dazu nachgewiesen, welche wichtige Rolle Darstellungsverfahren und Performanz in Erkenntnisprozessen durchgehend spielen. Man könnte annehmen, dass die künstlerische Forschung für diesen Zusammenhang eine besondere Expertise hätte, da in künstlerischen Prozessen Verfahren der Darstellung und der Performance ja zentral sind. Dennoch ist die Beziehung zwischen Forschungsprozess und Präsentation auch in der künstlerischen Forschung alles andere als geklärt. Im Gegenteil. In meinem Vortrag und dem anschließenden Workshop möchte ich über gängige Schwierigkeiten im Verhältnis von Prozess und Präsentation sprechen, über Ursachen und Lösungen nachdenken und dazu ermutigen, mit der Figuration von Evidenz gezielt zu experimentieren.

The Junior Research Group’s (JRG) colloquium at the Department of Performing Arts deals with these and other questions. The aim is to critically reflect on the participants‘ own research projects. Languages are German and English.
